THE BEACH

My work is a visual record of the way I see things. I'm inspired by my surroundings, particularly the beaches of Worthing in West Sussex. It's not a wild place but down on the beach at low tide there is a sense of freedom in the wide open spaces with big skies, never-ending tides and the dead-straight line of the distant horizon. You can feel the forces of nature.

I’ve known these beaches for years and years, they are part of my history and my identity. I feel at home by the sea and enjoy the charm of seaside towns, whether picturesque fishing villages or tacky holiday resorts. I like the tension between order and chaos, the organic forms of pebbles, rockpools and clouds, and the hard lines of sea defences and the pier structure.
